Summer School Enrichment Program Info

posted Mar 10, 2021, 8:01 AM by web Eagle   [ updated Apr 14, 2021, 12:22 PM ]

April 7, 2021

Dear Jamestown Parents,

Thank you for your interest in your child’s participation in summer school! We would like to share the following information with you:

THEME:
The theme this year is “Tails & Tales”, in conjunction with the Moniteau County Library’s Program.  Many of the lessons and projects developed for summer school will be focused on learning about animals. Summer school will run May 17 - June 11 from 8:00 AM - 2:30 PM. School will not be in session on May 31, 2021, for the observance of Memorial Day.

TRANSPORTATION:
If you indicated your child would need bus transportation, you will be contacted by the bus driver with pick-up and drop-off times. If you haven’t heard from your bus driver by May 10, please contact the school.  Transportation will not be provided between morning and afternoon high school sessions.

MEALS:
Breakfast, snacks and lunch will be provided free of charge to all students through the Summer Feeding Program. A menu will be sent home before the first day of summer school for you to review. Your child may bring his/her own lunch if you would prefer to do so.

TEACHERS:
The teaching assignments are as follows:
Students entering kindergarten/first grade: Julie Wingate
Students entering second grade/third grade: Nichole Bruce
Students entering fourth grade/fifth grade: Monica Lang
Students entering sixth, seventh or eighth grade: Jackie Cowgill
Students taking PE: Makayla Howard
*Some classes may change if additional students enroll in summer school.

HIGH SCHOOL P.E. ENROLLMENT & A+:
High school students enrolling in PE may choose to attend either the morning session or the afternoon session. These times will be as follows:  8:00 AM - 11:00 AM  or 11:30 AM - 2:30 PM.  Students from both sessions may eat lunch from 11:00 - 11:30 in the cafeteria. Students will receive ½ PE credit, as long as they miss no more than two days of instruction during summer school.

A+ tutors may sign up for tutoring hours and choose to attend all day, morning session, or the afternoon session. This will allow students to accumulate A+ hours and enroll in PE if they desire. Please contact Ms. Marshall if you have any questions regarding A+ hours.

SWIMMING:
Rylee Glenn will be overseeing swimming lessons for all K-8 students, in coordination with the Jamestown Community Pool. She has provided the following information for you:
Student Expectations: Students will need to bring a swimming suit, towel and bag.  Students will be required to dress out in proper swimming attire.  Swimming suits for boys are regular swimming trunks.  Swimming suits for girls are one piece swimming suits. Two piece swimming suits will not be allowed. Goggles may be used to see underwater but will not be provided.  Students will be asked to participate. Students will be asked to follow all pool rules.

Grade Level : 4th-5th 9:10 am-10:00 am

We also have several students participating in the A+ program who will be helping in the classrooms and during swimming lessons.

All  K-8 students will participate in the Moniteau County Library Summer Reading Program. Activities will be facilitated on Thursdays at 1:00 at the school.

It is the desire of the school district to offer additional instructional time for our students to learn and have the opportunity to participate in activities outside the regular school year. All policies and procedures outlined in the handbook will be followed during summer school.  In the event your child/ren will not be able to attend summer school, please contact the school. Thank you! If you have any questions, please let me know.

Sincerely,

Gretchen Guitard
