Dear Jamestown Families,

As you are aware, all school districts in the state of Missouri are required to provide a minimum of 1044 hours of student instruction to meet state calendar requirements. Our current 2020-2021 calendar includes 36 additional hours to account for inclement weather. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has allowed schools to apply to also use their Virtual Learning Plan for school closures due to inclement weather. Our district has been approved for this option. With the lost hours we have already utilized and pending inclement weather, we are sending home electronic devices and instructional materials this afternoon. In the event we are unable to have school next week, we will pivot to the District’s Virtual Learning Plan in order to continue counting instructional hours. I have attached the Virtual Learning Plan to this letter for your review.

At this time, we are not sure what is going to happen next week. However, we want to be prepared for all possible situations. As usual, parents will be notified through text, email, and phone calls for any decision regarding school closure. Local media stations are also notified with this information.

Please be advised that with the frigid temperatures, electronic devices are susceptible to damage. We encourage all students to keep their electronic devices inside and not leave them in a vehicle.

Sincerely,

Dr. Gretchen Guitard
